10 questions ยท Politics

Franklin D. Roosevelt, born in New York in 1882, was the thirty-second President of the United States (1933 to 1945) and one of the most important of the 20th century. He is the only president elected four times. Roosevelt took office in the middle of the Great Depression and fought it with a large-scale reform programme, the "New Deal". In his famous radio addresses, the "Fireside Chats", he spoke directly to the people. From 1941 he led the USA through the Second World War alongside the Allies. Despite a polio illness that confined him to a wheelchair, he shaped the office like almost no other. Roosevelt died in office in 1945, shortly before the war's end.
