Animal Kingdom

blue whale

The blue whale is the largest animal that ever lived: over 30 metres long, feeding on tiny krill.

💡 Did you know? The blue whale is heavier than the largest dinosaurs were.

three

Octopuses are remarkably intelligent, can change colour and shape, and squeeze through the tiniest gaps.

💡 Did you know? Two hearts pump to the gills, one through the body.

cheetah

The cheetah is built for short sprints: topping 100 km/h, but only for a few seconds.

💡 Did you know? A cheetah accelerates faster than many sports cars.

bat

Bats are the only mammals capable of true flight; their wings are skin stretched between long fingers.

💡 Did you know? Bats navigate in the dark by echolocation.

African elephant

The African elephant is the largest land animal; its trunk can lift tree trunks or pluck a single berry.

💡 Did you know? An elephant eats up to 200 kilograms of plants a day.

honeybee

Honeybees live in colonies with a queen and use a „waggle dance“ to signal good food sources.

💡 Did you know? For one jar of honey, bees together fly halfway around the world.

hummingbird

Hummingbirds are the only birds that can hover and fly backwards: their hearts beat up to 1,200 times a minute.

💡 Did you know? Hummingbirds beat their wings up to 80 times per second.

metamorphosis

In metamorphosis, a caterpillar fully transforms into a butterfly inside its cocoon: a profound rebuilding of the body.

💡 Did you know? In metamorphosis the caterpillar almost fully dissolves inside the cocoon.

eight

Spiders are not insects but arachnids: many weave intricate webs of silk.

💡 Did you know? Spiders have eight legs: insects have six.

camel

The camel is perfectly adapted to the desert: it can go days without water and closes its nostrils in sandstorms.

💡 Did you know? A camel's hump stores fat, not water.
