In April 2026, humanity looked up. On 1 April (no joke) NASA launched the Artemis II mission: the first crewed journey beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972. The four-person crew looped around the Moon, set a distance record of about 407,000 kilometres from Earth, and splashed down safely in the Pacific on 10 April, with the first woman, the first Black astronaut and the first Canadian ever to travel beyond Earth orbit on board. Back on Earth, politics shook: in Hungary, the Viktor Orbán era ended after 16 years as Péter Magyar's Tisza party won the election by a landslide: an earthquake felt across Europe. The Iran war knew both pauses and pressure: an ultimatum brokered a two-week ceasefire, then a US naval blockade of Iranian ports took effect, while in Lebanon a fragile truce began after heavy Israeli airstrikes. In Mali, Islamists seized the desert city of Kidal, Benin elected Romuald Wadagni president, and climate services logged the third-warmest April on record. A month stretched between moonlight and gravity and fifteen questions to relive it.
