9 questions · Film & Cinema
Christoph Waltz, born in Vienna in 1956, worked for decades as a solid but little-known actor: until one role made him a world star overnight. The Austrian became famous through his collaboration with Quentin Tarantino.
As the charming, ice-cold SS officer Hans Landa in "Inglourious Basterds" he won the 2010 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Just three years later he won the same award again, this time as a bounty hunter in "Django Unchained": also under Tarantino. He also appeared as the James Bond villain Blofeld.
Waltz has since been regarded as one of Hollywood's most sought-after character actors.
Good to know: Waltz was a largely unknown TV actor for decades: until Tarantino made him a world star overnight at 52 as the „Jew hunter“ Hans Landa. Waltz won both his Oscars for films by Quentin Tarantino: a unique success story. In „Django Unchained“ Waltz played a German bounty hunter in the Wild West and won his second Oscar. As Bond's arch-enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Waltz faced Daniel Craig in „Spectre“.
