Cricket (terms & formats): Six deliveries make an over. The official is the umpire. 100 runs by a batsman is a century. Twenty20 (T20) lasts just a few hours and has made cricket more popular worldwide.
The classic format is Test cricket. Behind the batsman stands the wicketkeeper. 'Spin bowlers' make the ball deviate after it bounces; 'pace bowlers' rely on sheer speed. The scoring run is called a run.
Good to know: After six balls (one 'over') the bowling switches to the other end of the pitch. In cricket two umpires stand on the field. A 'century' (100 runs) is regarded as an outstanding individual feat. Twenty20 lasts only about three hours: this format made cricket faster, brighter and more mainstream. A Test match can last up to five days. The wicketkeeper is the only fielder allowed to wear gloves. Spin bowlers make the ball rotate so it changes direction unexpectedly after bouncing. For a run the two batsmen swap ends of the pitch. After six deliveries (an over) the bowler changes and play switches to the other end.
