12 questions · Mythology
Cronus is the leader of the Titans, the older generation of gods before the Olympians, and father of Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter and Hestia. Under his rule a paradisal „Golden Age“ without suffering or toil is said to have prevailed.
Cronus came to power by overthrowing his own father Uranus. Out of fear of the same prophecy (that a child would depose him) he swallowed his newborns. Only Zeus escaped and finally dethroned him, exactly as foretold.
Cronus is often conflated with Chronos, personified time, and depicted with a sickle. In Roman mythology he corresponds to Saturn.
