Darts: basics

Darts (basics): In the standard game '501' everyone starts at 501 and subtracts the points they throw. You must reach exactly 0 and the last dart must hit a double (or the bull). You throw three darts per turn. The red centre scores 50 points.
The treble-20 bed scores 60 points: the highest single value. The maximum with three darts is 180. The outer ring is the double ring. The throw line is 2.37 metres from the board.
Good to know: Counting down from 501: the odd starting number stops the game being finished too neatly with round scores. The „double out“ makes the finish a test of nerve: the last dart must hit the narrow double ring exactly. After three darts the turn ends: at most 180 points. The outer green bull scores 25, the red centre 50 points. The treble 20 scores 60: the highest possible with three darts is 180, the „maximum“. Three treble 20s make 180: hailed with the call 'One hundred and eighty!'. The outer ring doubles, the narrow inner ring trebles. The throw line is called the 'oche'.
