Equestrian: competition & history
8 questions · Sports
Equestrian (competition & history): Equestrian sport has been Olympic without a break since 1912. The world body is the FEI. After several clear rounds a 'jump-off' (time + faults) often decides the winner. The decisive timed round is the jump-off.
The famous event is the CHIO Aachen. Racing on the track is horse racing (flat racing). The high, narrow obstacle is the upright (vertical). A great equestrian nation is Germany.
Good to know: Dressage, jumping and eventing have been Olympic since 1912. The FEI governs all Olympic equestrian disciplines. A clear round with no knockdowns or time faults is the ticket to the jump-off: where it's really decided. In a jump-off, with equal faults the fastest time wins. The CHIO Aachen is regarded as the 'world festival of equestrian sport'. Famous races include the English Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. The upright is high but narrow: unlike the wide oxer. The Netherlands, Great Britain and France are also among the world's best. Equestrian is one of the few Olympic sports where men and women compete directly against each other.
