First Aid

12 questions · Health & Medicine

In an emergency every second counts and often it is not the doctor but the bystander who happens to be there who decides between life and death. The reassuring part is this: anyone can learn the most important steps, and even simple measures can help enormously until the ambulance arrives. This pack refreshes the most important first-aid knowledge: recognise the emergency number 112 and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the recovery position for the unconscious and the defibrillator that gets the heart back into rhythm, the Heimlich manoeuvre against choking and the pressure bandage for heavy bleeding, the warming rescue blanket and raising the legs in shock, cooling a burn and the correct compression rate of 100 to 120 per minute, plus the poison hotline and the well-stocked first-aid kit: recognise them by how they are used and feel a good deal more prepared for a real emergency. In the end the most important rule of first aid still holds: doing something is almost always better than doing nothing out of fear.
