Frigg

12 questions · Mythology

Frigg is the queen of the Aesir, wife of Odin and highest goddess of Norse mythology. As protector of marriage, motherhood and the household she stands at the side of the father of the gods and shares with him the rule of Asgard. Her most distinctive knowledge is the gift of foresight: Frigg knows the fate of all beings but never speaks it. Her whole care was for her beloved son Baldr, whose prophesied death she tried by every means to prevent and yet failed. Frigg is sometimes interpreted, together with Freyja, as two sides of the same original goddess. Friday is named after her (or Freyja). Frigg, Odin’s wife, resides in her hall Fensalir and is often depicted with a distaff. Good to know: As the highest goddess and Odin's wife, Frigg stands for marriage, family and knowledge of fate.
