Gymnastics (competition & stars): All apparatus together is the all-around. The single-apparatus event is the apparatus final. Gymnastics has been Olympic since 1896. The world body is the FIG.
One of the best is Simone Biles. The first 10.0 was scored by Nadia Comăneci. The top mark was the 10.0. Today there is a D-score (difficulty, open-ended) and an E-score (execution, maximum 10).
Good to know: In the all-around the total across all apparatus decides. Only the best on each apparatus qualify for the event finals. Gymnastics has been on the programme since the first modern Games in 1896. The FIG is the oldest international sports federation, founded in 1881. Simone Biles has performed elements so hard they are named after her. At Montreal 1976 she scored the first perfect 10.0 in Olympic history. The old 10-point system was later replaced by an open-ended points system. The E-score (execution) starts at 10.0; every wobble and error costs tenths. In the all-around the sum of all apparatus counts; the winner is seen as the most complete gymnast.
