Identify the sport

20 questions · Sports

Some sports you recognise from a single image: from the equipment, the posture, the playing surface. That is exactly the point here: you see a scene and name the discipline. From Olympic classics to sports you rarely catch on television. You will come across artistic gymnastics, where men compete on six apparatus and women on four, field hockey, Olympic since 1908, and American football. Then there is curling, known as chess on ice, biathlon with its mix of endurance and a steady hand, rowing, where athletes sit facing backwards, and fencing with its three weapons foil, épée and sabre. Triathlon, water polo, badminton, squash, archery, handball, volleyball, table tennis, judo, ice hockey, golf and ski jumping are all here too. Watch the details: ball, racket, surface, clothing and the number of athletes almost always give the sport away. Did you know that a shuttlecock can exceed 300 kilometres per hour on a smash? That makes badminton the sport with the fastest projectile of them all.
