Jack Nicholson

10 questions · Film & Cinema

Jack Nicholson, born in New Jersey in 1937, is one of the greatest and most charismatic actors of American cinema. Famous for his mischievous grin and raised eyebrows, he often played rebellious, eccentric or sinister characters. Among his greatest works are "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", in which he plays a rebellious asylum inmate, and "The Shining", in which he made film history as a writer going mad. For decades he was at the very top of Hollywood. Nicholson won three Oscars and was nominated for the award more often than almost any other man. He later withdrew from the film business. Good to know: Nicholson learned only as an adult that the woman he thought was his sister was in fact his mother. With three Oscars, Nicholson is among the most decorated actors in history. For „One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest“ he won the Oscar: the film swept all five major categories, a rarity. Nicholson's devilish grin defined characters like the Joker in „Batman“ and the crazed father in „The Shining“ („Here's Johnny!“).
