James Dean

10 questions · Film & Cinema

James Dean, born in Indiana in 1931, became one of the greatest icons of the 20th century despite an extremely short career: the very symbol of rebellious, restless youth. Dean made only three major films, among them "Rebel Without a Cause", in which he plays the torn teenager Jim. His intense, vulnerable performance struck a chord with a whole generation that recognised itself in him. In 1955 James Dean died at just 24 in a car accident in his sports car: even before two of his films had reached cinemas. It was precisely his early death that made him an immortal cult figure for good. Good to know: James Dean grew up on a farm in Indiana and went to Hollywood young to become an actor. With „Rebel Without a Cause“, Dean became the symbol of rebellious, misunderstood post-war youth. Dean played leads in only three films: yet became one of the greatest icons in film history. At just 24, Dean died in a 1955 car crash in his Porsche: shortly after filming a road-safety ad. His early death made Dean forever young, to this day he is a symbol of youthful cool and rebellion.
