10 questions · Film & Cinema
Klaus Kinski, born in 1926, was one of the most intense and notorious actors in German cinema. His eccentric, often choleric behaviour was as legendary as his screen presence.
Indelibly tied to his name is his stormy collaboration with director Werner Herzog, with whom he made five films, including the masterpieces "Aguirre, the Wrath of God", "Nosferatu" and "Fitzcarraldo". The shoots were marked by violent outbursts and conflicts out of which great art emerged.
Kinski was the father of actress Nastassja Kinski. He died in California in 1991.
Good to know: Kinski and Werner Herzog shared a brilliant but extremely fraught collaboration: Herzog later processed it in the documentary „My Best Fiend“. „Aguirre, the Wrath of God“, shot under extreme conditions in the Peruvian jungle, is considered one of the greatest films in cinema history. Kinski was notorious for his unpredictable, raging outbursts: on set he even threatened Herzog with death. His daughter Nastassja Kinski became an international film star in her own right.
