Marc-Uwe Kling
9 questions · Literature
Marc-Uwe Kling, born in 1982, is a cabaret artist, songwriter and one of Germany’s most successful comedy authors. From his stage and podcast appearances grew the „Kangaroo Chronicles“: the verbal duels of a struggling artist with a communist kangaroo. With the satire „QualityLand“ he skewered the digital future, and children’s books such as „The NO-nicorn“ became huge hits.
Good to know: A communist kangaroo moves in with a struggling artist and comments waspishly on the world. The series began as a radio and stage act. Algorithms decide every purchase and relationship: until someone opts out. The satire is often compared to the works of Douglas Adams. A unicorn that answers everything with „No“ became a bestselling picture book. Alongside satire, Kling thus also writes highly successfully for children. The kangaroo quotes Marx, hates Nazis and scrounges liqueur chocolates. It even claims to have fought in the Viet Cong. The film became one of the most successful German cinema releases of its time.
