Orson Welles

10 questions · Film & Cinema

Orson Welles, born in the USA in 1915, was a prodigy of film and theatre: director, actor, writer and producer in one. As a young man he already caused a stir. In 1938 his realistically staged radio play "The War of the Worlds" about a Martian invasion caused genuine panic among some listeners. Only a few years later Welles, at just 25, made "Citizen Kane" (1941), the portrait of a newspaper magnate. For its revolutionary narrative style and imagery, the film is still often voted the greatest film of all time in polls. Welles later had a hard time in Hollywood and often worked in Europe. He died in 1985 as a legendary, headstrong artistic figure.
