Paul McCartney

13 questions · Music

Paul McCartney from Liverpool was the melodic mind and bassist of the Beatles; with John Lennon he formed the duo ‘Lennon/McCartney’. He is regarded as one of the greatest creators of catchy melodies ever: songs like ‘Yesterday’, ‘Hey Jude’ with its endless ‘na-na-na’ finale and the comforting ‘Let It Be’ came from his pen. After the Beatles ended he proved he was far from finished: he founded the band Wings, which produced the dramatic Bond song ‘Live and Let Die’ and the Christmas hit ‘Wonderful Christmastime’. To this day McCartney takes the stage and plays extensive world tours to sold-out stadiums: a living piece of music history. Good to know: After the Beatles he founded the band Wings. His Höfner ‘violin bass’ is iconic. He also plays piano, guitar and drums. Originally meant for Lennon’s son Julian. The long ‘na-na-na’ finale is famous. He reportedly heard the melody in a dream. It is one of the most-covered songs ever. He founded it with his wife Linda. ‘Band on the Run’ was their big success.
