Sebastian Fitzek, born in Berlin in 1971, is Germany’s most successful psychological-thriller author: sold in the millions and translated into more than two dozen languages. Before writing he worked as a journalist and radio programme director; that sense of timing still shapes his notorious cliffhangers. His debut „Die Therapie“ (The Therapy, 2006) unexpectedly stormed the bestseller lists and launched his career. Since then one nerve-shredder has chased the next: „The Child“, in which a boy claims a long-past murder is his doing; „The Eye Collector“, about a serial killer who gave a whole series its name; „Passenger 23“, set aboard a cruise ship, where people really do vanish without trace every year. With the author Vincent Kliesch he wrote the „Auris“ series about a forensic expert who identifies people by their voice alone. In 2016 Fitzek became the first German to receive the European Prize for Crime Literature. His readings fill entire arenas and are often staged like a show with music and lights. Claustrophobic settings are his trademark: a psychiatric ward, a plane, a ship: places that seem to offer no escape.
