Squash: basics
8 questions ยท Sports
Squash (basics): Squash is played in an enclosed court against the front wall; both players share the same walls in turn. In singles two players face each other. Under modern 'point-a-rally' scoring a game goes to 11 (win by two); usually best of five. The ball may bounce only once.
The bottom strip is the tin. The shot along the wall is the rail (drive). Play uses the squash ball. The short ball into the corner is the drop shot.
Good to know: Both players use the same front wall in turn: sharing one court, which makes position and tactics crucial. Both players share the same space: awareness is essential. At 10-10 you must win by two; matches are usually best of five games. If the ball bounces twice, the point is lost. Hitting the 'tin' loses the rally instantly. A precise rail shot clings to the side wall. Coloured dots show the bounce: 'double yellow' is very slow (the pro ball). The drop shot forces the opponent into a sprint to the front. Both share the same small court: whoever controls the middle (the โTโ) dominates the game.
