Taylor Swift
10 questions Β· Society & Everyday
Taylor Swift is born in Pennsylvania in 1989 and knows as a child that she wants to be a musician. At 14 she moves with her family to Nashville, the heart of country music, to chase her dream. At just 16 she releases her first album and stands out immediately: as a young songwriter who writes her own songs about teenage life, first loves and heartbreak: honest, catchy and with a feel for storytelling.
Over the years the country talent grows into one of the biggest pop stars in the world. Albums such as 'Fearless', '1989', 'folklore' and 'Midnights' mark ever-new turns in her style: from country through glossy pop to quieter, narrative sounds. Her hallmark remains her songwriting: few artists weave personal experience into their lyrics so artfully, and fans hunt for hidden messages, the "Easter eggs".
Swift is also an exceptionally shrewd businesswoman. When the rights ("masters") to her early albums are sold without her involvement, she responds with an unprecedented move: she re-records her old albums in full (as "(Taylor's Version)") to regain control of her own work. The move becomes a much-discussed lesson in artists' rights.
Her "Eras Tour", launched in 2023, becomes one of the most successful concert tours in history and a global cultural event. With numerous Grammys (including the Album of the Year award more than once) and a huge, devoted fan base, the "Swifties", Taylor Swift is one of the most influential musicians of her generation.
