Volleyball (terms): The opening shot is the serve. The forearm pass is the bump (dig). The fingertip overhead pass is the set. The setting second touch is the set. The hard overhead hit is a spike. A direct point off the serve is an ace. Touching the net during play is a net fault (net touch). Touching twice in a row is a double hit (fault). The deceptive soft shot is a tip (dink). Good to know: The serve is the only action a player fully controls alone. In a dig the forearms cushion hard-hit balls cleanly. The set is the most precise technique: usually for the assist. The set is the second of three allowed contacts. Top players spike the ball at over 100 km/h. A good block sends the attack straight back into the opponent's court. The libero may not attack or serve. An ace is a serve the opponent fails to return properly. Touching the net costs the point. Two consecutive touches by the same player are illegal (except off the block). The tip drops the ball short instead of a hard spike.
