Everyone knows the works; many stumble over the names. Faust, Romeo and Juliet, War and Peace, the Mona Lisa, the Ode to Joy; these titles are common property, but who created them often sits only vaguely in memory. This pack matches the most famous works to their makers, across literature, painting and music, and brings the stories along. Goethe worked on Faust for sixty years and finished the second part only shortly before his death. Beethoven was already deaf when his Ninth was first performed and had to be turned around to see the applause. Tolstoy wrote War and Peace in seven years; his wife is said to have copied out the manuscript seven times by hand. Kafka wanted his unpublished writing burned: that we can read The Trial at all we owe to the disobedience of his friend Max Brod. And Vivaldi's Four Seasons lay forgotten for almost two hundred years after his death until the twentieth century rediscovered them. The cards come from the literature and music packs of the app: if you know them there, you have them here automatically.
