Zoroaster

8 questions · Religion & Belief

Zarathustra (Greek: Zoroaster) was the founder of Zoroastrianism, one of the oldest religions still in existence. He probably lived in ancient Persia, in the region of present-day Iran; exactly when is disputed: estimates reach far back into the second millennium BC. Zarathustra taught belief in a supreme, good creator god, Ahura Mazda. At the centre of his message stands the great struggle between good and evil, truth and lie, in which every person takes part through their actions: the call to "good thoughts, good words, good deeds". With its ideas of a last judgement, heaven and hell, Zoroastrianism probably also influenced later religions such as Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Good to know: Zoroaster founded Zoroastrianism, one of the oldest religions still practised today. He probably lived over 3,000 years ago in ancient Persia; the exact date is debated among scholars. He taught belief in a supreme, good God: Ahura Mazda, the „wise lord“. At its heart is the struggle between good and evil and the free choice of the individual.
